"LUE" -
JetBlue’s Premium Service Operation to Launch
-- Premium Service and International Routes to be added to JetBlue's
Portfolio Of Products --
November 8, 2003 - JetBlue (Nasdaq
: JBLU) today announced that San Juan, PR will be the launch hub for
their new premium service operation, an essential element within
JetBlue's portfolio of products. The new airline, to be christened "LUE",
will serve predominantly business markets and feature a fare structure
with business and premium fare options.
L-U-E are the last three letters of JetBlue. The airline is planning to
launch the premium service option in February as part of its plan to
enter into bankruptcy. It will be based out of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The name LUE has created a buzz in recent days. It was spraypainted onto
the walls of a mens room cubicle at Grand Central station in New York
City, but was later removed by maintenance staff on the graveyard shift.
There have also been LUE billboard sightings in Los Angeles' Compton
district and along Atlanta's MLK Boulevard. The ladies chorus at Third
Baptist Church of Richmond, VA incorporated LUE into their Sunday
"Hal-Le-LUE-Jah" service. LUE bought cufflinks for everyone at a Men's
Warehouse in Laredo, TX on Tuesday and cummerbunds for patrons of
Burlington Coat Factory in Montpelier, VT last week. Even CNN's host of
Moneyline had his name inadvertently spelled as LUE Dobbs on Friday.
The white and blue banner ads on Web sites state “Who The F*** is TED?
Meet LUE”. They link to the www.airwhiners.net Web site, an organization
that features parodies of trends in the airline industry. “WHO CARES
ABOUT TED” they urge the reader, an obvious attempt to discredit
bankrupt rival United Airlines (OTCBB : UALAQ.OB) who will be launching
a low cost carrier called "TED" in February.
"They are playing to reality advertising. They are definitely trying to
go low-cost", explained Michael Boyd, president of Denver based aviation
consulting firm Boyd Group. "Unlike United who restrict their marketing
to passengers named Edward or Theodore, LUE opens up the door to a large
target audience ranging from Louanne to Lorraine to Lawrence."
Tickets will go on sale in January through all existing sales channels -
JetBlue.com. LUE will be a JetBlue-branded product and will feature the
company's trademark blue on everything from aircraft exteriors to
lavatory flush solution.
